About Us

We are a team of mixed men and women of all ages that all have a shared love of this fantastic teamsport that encourages grit, determination, strength, courage, commitment, passion and many other qualities.

Our club is ambitious and it is our goal to reclaim our place at the top of the World Stage once again.

Our History

Since its formation in 1962 Sandhurst tug of war club has won 3 World Championships Golds, 3 European Golds and 9 National Championships to name some of the top honours in our sport. The club dominated the domestic and international scene after winning the nationals in 1999 for nearly a decade. But as they say, ‘all good things come to an end’ and the team began to struggle, but never gave up and never missed a single Nationals Championships.

Sandhurst represented England Men in the 560kg category at the 2023 World Outdoor Championships.

Sandhurst TOWC has seen a lot of change over the past 6 decades, but none more so than in late 2019 when just before COVID hit, ladies began training with the men. With the pandemic out the way, the team got back on the rope, this time fully embracing the new mixed gender club and almost doubling in size over night.

Excitement came when the Sandhurst Ladies put a team out for their first National Championships in 2021 under the watchful eye of coach Sam Canning. The club continues to grow and build with the pursut of competing and winning at international level, while supporting the growth and progression of our grass roots members.
